Surge in Support for Marine Le Pen's Far-Right Party in France

Ahead of European Parliament Elections

Less than three weeks before the EU elections, the far-right party of Marine Le Pen, National Rally (RN), is expected to perform strongly against French President Emmanuel Macron's centrist party.

Jordan Bardella, president of RN, believes his party has a chance of victory. "A moins de trois semaines des élections européennes, Marine Le Pen a souhaité mercredi la pire," he stated, expressing a desire for the worst outcome for Macron.

The dividing lines between supporters and opponents of Marine Le Pen have become increasingly blurred since the European referendums of 1992 and 2005.

In March 1987, Le Pen made her political debut. The 2015 migration crisis and protests by the anti-immigrant Pegida movement further contributed to her rise in popularity.

Marine Le Pen currently serves as president of the RN parliamentary group in the National Assembly.
